Lauren Graham appeared on Ellen today to talk about her upcoming book release, Talking As Fast As I Can, as well as Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which is now officially the confirmed name for the 4-part Netflix revival (have you seen the poster?). Lauren shares that she was inspired to write the new book because of the revival of Gilmore Girls and what it was like to return to the character of Lorelai. In writing the short essays, a number of other stories came out about her life as well (including many references to Ellen!).
“I thought that it was so, kind of, strange and wonderful to have played this character and to get to play her again that I started writing about it,” she explained. “I have a book of essays that are hopefully humorous, coming out concurrent when the show comes out. It’s called Talking as Fast as I Can! for obvious reasons.”
In her interview, Lauren Graham hints that the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life release date would be around the same time as the release of her new book,Talking as Fast as I Can, slated to hit shelves on November 22nd. She actually said they would come out “concurrently,” so it could mean they come out on the exact same day. As GilmoreNews reader Stacy points out, Netflix typically releases shows on a Friday, which could peg the release of Gilmore Girls on November 25th or on December 2nd, if we don’t take “concurrently” too literally.
Here’s a little info about Lauren’s upcoming book, Talking As Fast As I Can, which is Lauren’s second book, following the successful publication of Someday, Someday, Maybe. Unlike her first book, this second is not a work of fiction. Here is what Lauren wrote about her new book:
“This book contains some stories from my life: the awkward growing up years, the confusing dating years, the fulfilling working years, and what it was like to be asked to play one of my favorite characters again. You probably think I’m talking about my incredible achievement as Dolly in Hello, Dolly! as a Langley High School junior, a performance my dad called “you’re so much taller than the other kids.” But no! I’m talking about Lorelai Gilmore, who, back in 2008, I wasn’t sure I’d ever see again. Also included: tales of living on a houseboat, meeting guys at awards shows, and that time I was asked to be a butt model. A hint: all three made me seasick.“
